COWORKER started as a solo. Then things got complicated. This meeting could (not) have been email. What began as a one-person descent into the weird, glitchy world of work has grown into a performance series featuring a spontaneous collective of collaborators who, for reasons still under investigation, have decided to call themselves The Board.
What if capitalism has always been a performance? What if the rules were made up? And what happens when nobody remembers who made them?
The fluorescent lights are on. Someone called a meeting, but no one knows why. The world’s leaders have gathered in an abandoned office building for a meeting no one remembers scheduling. Who is responsible here?
Part corporate ritual, part dance experiment, part existential crisis, COWORKER plays with queer and neurodivergent ways of being, while poking holes in the systems that tell us how to work, perform, produce, and behave. It asks what happens when productivity becomes a belief system, the body becomes a workplace, and performance starts looking suspiciously like a quarterly review.
One of our coworkers wanders through the still-functioning ruins of late capitalism. An office tower turned sanctuary. A screen turned oracle. We’re still working: out of habit, fear, or glitch. Who are we when the machine can no longer tell the difference between us and the ghosts? When productivity becomes a cult, and burnout a rite of passage?
COWORKER is an interdisciplinary performance series that mutates from one iteration to the next. Bodies, collaborators, characters, and situations enter and exit the system, expanding a shared universe of corporate rituals, glitches, desires, and collective breakdowns.
A corporate mirage.
