At its root is a simple question: what moves us?
What brings a body into movement? What tells us where to go, when to stop, how to behave, how to relate? Which rules do we consciously choose, and which ones have become so familiar that we no longer recognize them as rules? What systems inhabit our bodies, our relationships, our communities, and the spaces we share?
SYSTÈMES approaches choreography not only as the organization of movement, but as a way of observing how systems emerge.
The research begins between bodies.
Rather than considering the individual body as an isolated unit, SYSTEM understands each body as part of a larger ecology: a fragment of a whole, a point within a network, a fractal of a much larger living system. Each person carries their own history, perception, desires, limits, patterns, and agency. At the same time, every body is continually responding to the bodies, spaces, structures, and forces around it.
The space between bodies becomes a site of research.
It is in this space that relationships form. It is where negotiation happens. Where attention shifts. Where power becomes visible. Where one body affects another, and where collective formations begin to emerge.
SYSTÈMES investigates these processes through embodied experimentation, improvisation, observation, conversation, and collective practice. Participants are invited to notice the systems they are already part of and to experiment with altering the conditions through which those systems operate.
What happens when we change a rule?
What happens when we stop following an instruction we didn't know we were following?
What happens when we listen differently?
What happens when each individual body retains its agency while remaining deeply responsive to the collective?
And what new formations become possible when we allow the system itself to become perceptible?
SYSTÈMES is therefore both research and practice: a space for investigating how bodies organize themselves, how collectives form, and how seemingly small shifts in attention, relationship, or choice can reorganize an entire field.
The work is rooted in the belief that systems are not only structures imposed upon us. They are also things we continuously participate in, reproduce, negotiate, and transform.
By bringing these systems into awareness through the body, SYSTÈMES creates conditions for collective experimentation: a rehearsal space for perceiving the structures that shape us and discovering other ways of moving within, and together.
SYSTÈMES asks not only how we move, but what moves us, what moves through us, and what becomes possible when we begin to move differently together.
